Abstract

696,581. Load-handling appliances on overhead apparatus; lifting cradles; endless-belt conveyers. KING, D. M. July 6, 1951. [July 21, 1950 ; May 29, 1951] Nos. 18312/50 and 12633/51. Classes 78 (i), 78 (iii) and 78 (iv). Apparatus supported from overhead mechanism for handling articles comprises a frame 10 and telescopic legs 14 integral with forks 15 which tilt to retain the articles thereon.. The legs are extensible by cable 16 operated by a motor driven drum 11. Several modifications are described. The control unit 26 may be mounted on beams which are retracted between the forks when not in use and are extended beyond them when in use. The frame, Fig. 4, may be mounted to rotate on a circular track 21 which is movable longitudinally on rails 22. The forks 23 may be extensible on rollers 25 in guides 24 and the legs 14 pivoted by thrusters 27. The forks may be mounted on a carriage raised in vertical guides. The forks may be tilted by a linkage which may be a toggle and restored by spring means. The forks may also be laterally movable on a screw and rotatable about vertical axes. The movements of the forks may be electrically controlled and may have safety-devices. The forks may be replaced by a platform, or by endless belt conveyers or rollers.
