A raked seating structure for circuses &c. comprises steel stringers 1 detachablyseated (in speed relation) on trestles &c. of varying height, end seat supports 9a, b,. alternating with floor supports 10, permanently fixed to each stringer and seat sections 11 with tongues at their ends which pass throught slots 13 in the end supports and are engaged therein by a ring or loop so as to lock the abutting ends of two seat sections to the support. Unit lengths of the stringers which are of channel section are joined by hardwood blocks inserted into their abutting ends and bolted thereto. Wedge-shaped blocks are secured to the underside of the stringers for reception in sockets at the upper end of the trestles which are also preferably stayed to the strips. Floor sections 15 are locked to their end supports 10 in the same way as the seats. Detachable backrests 16 are supported by uprights 9c integral with the seat supports. In a prepared form a blade spring is mounted at the end of each backrest, adjacent pairs being received in a recess in a wooden filler strip 17 in the upright and a pair of bolts projecting from each backrest enter slots 21 in the web of the upright. A gangway may be provided by omitting a block of seat sections a handrail preferably being secured to the exposed end supports.
