Class 20(iv) A hollow block, for the construction of reinforced concrete floors &c. with or without centering having at least two flat-bottomed recesses, open at the top, on which reinforced concrete beams can be cast, in which at least two deep recesses a each lie between two hollow ribs b. the lower portions of the sides of these deep recesses are flat and at right angles to the flat bottoms, and the vertical distance between the top of any rib and the bottom of any deep recess is substantially greater than that between the bottom of any deep recess and the bottom of the block. The blocks may be recessed at the ends to provide a transverse cavity in which cement &c. is cast. The central rib may be lower than the outer ribs and concrete &c. cast thereover. The block shown in Fig. 4 is formed with parts p, of required shape, for supporting hollow filler blocks. The outer ribs may be formed with cavities, of any desired shape such as g, Fig. 6, at their upper outer edges in which reinforced concrete is cast to join adjacent blocks. A cavity, e.g. h, may also be formed in the upper face of the central rib in which concrete can be cast to strengthen the block . In a further embodiment a cavity, is formed in the lower face of each rib. The block shown in Fig. 8 has inclined partitions m, and that shown in Fig. 9 is formed with hollow chambers t which form an air cushion beneath the beams cast in recesses a. In a further construction the top walls of ribs b are thickened and the concrete is cast over or level with the upper surface thereof. A further embodiment is illustrated in Fig. 11. The blocks may be formed of ceramic, concrete, cellular concrete, agglomerate, wood, metal, etc. The concrete cast in recesses a may be prestressed.
