Abstract

694,724. Two-part couplings; plug-boards. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. March 2, 1951 [March 2, 1950], No. 5327/50. Class 38 (i). A terminal block comprises an insulating body 10 having parallel barrier plates 12 accommodating between them upwardly spring- urged sockets for receiving the ends of conductors, and a captive cover 17 bearing on the sockets and adjustable vertically to clamp the conductors in the sockets or permit removal of the conductors while still captive. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the sockets are arranged in opposed pairs and each pair comprises opposed channelled members 20, 21 with central recesses 23 (or projections) engaging ribs (or recesses) in the body 10 to locate them therein. Cover 17 is held captive on a screw 16 by a nut 18 and has dependent pads 19 engageable with the sockets. Figs. 6 and 8 show another embodiment wherein the sockets are single-ended and each comprises opposed flat members 25, 26 with lateral projections 27 at one side engaging recesses 28 in the barrier plates. Members 25, 28 also have pips 29 for engaging holes in flat ferrules on the ends of the conductors to retain said ferrules in the sockets. Sockets separated by a barrier plate may be linked by a U-shaped metal member.
