Abstract

1,046,386. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. July 22, 1965 [Aug. 7, 1964], No. 31202/65. Heading H2E. An electrical connector CB for use with a multi-bank stepping switch SS comprises an arcuate insulating block in which contacts 14 are arranged to engage with contacts 1 on a complementarily-shaped lower plate of the stepping switch. The block is formed by a series of stacked plates having radial recesses in their sides into which bifurcated contacts, Fig. 8 (not shown), are locked by spring detents pressed out from the contacts. A substantially semi-circular aluminium plate 10, 11 is arranged on either side of the block. The lower part of the stepping switch has a guide arm 4a which engages in a groove, the entrance to which is tapered, in the plate 10. As the two parts are brought together some of the contacts of the stepping switch engage the mating contacts and the others are brought into engagement on rotation of a lever 17 pivoted on the plate 10 and arranged to engage a screw 7. The lever 17 may be clamped by a set-screw 21. An aluminium cable clamp 22 is provided.
