Abstract
693,977. Vibratory mechanism. FYNE MACHINERY & ENGINEERING, Ltd. May 30, 1951 [June 15, 1950] , No. 14968/50. Class 80 (iv). A mechanical vibrator comprises an extended eccentric rotor 6 driven from a flexible shaft 24 through epicyclic stepup gearing. The casing 1 may be formed of several inter-screwed parts as shown and has an internally or externally threaded neck 3 for a transmission coupling 5. The rotor 6 is mounted in bearings 7 and comprises a mild steel body with an integral shaft 11 at the lower end; at the other end a hard steel shaft 12 is keyed or pinned in a recess therein. The shaft 12 is toothed to form a sun gear co-operating with planets 19 and a reaction annulus 16, and the driving carrier 18 has a shaft 17 formed with a thread, slot or square recess for connection with an element 26 on the driving shaft 24. The vibrator head 2 is filled with lubricant which is fed to an axial duct in the rotor by means of helical grooves in a rod 27, the rod being secured by a spring 28 to the head 2 and projecting into the shaft 11. Lubricant is fed to the gearing through radial ducts in the sun gear and to the bearing 21 by apertures in the carrier 18. Radial ducts may also be provided in the planets 19. An oil seal 22 is provided. Instead of a flexible shaft drive, an electric or other motor may be mounted as part of the upper section of the casing 1. In a modification, epicyclic step-up gearing is contained in a separate casing and is detachably connected by a short rigid or flexible shaft to a vibrator of unspecified type; the gearing may be arranged so that the driving shaft is aligned with or inclined to the vibrator axis. According to the Provisional Specification the vibrator may be driven through a centrifugal clutch.
