Abstract

693,466. Switch cases and contacts. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and PUCKETTE, C. C. Feb. 19, 1952 [March 20, 1951], No. 6657/51. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XXXVI] Means for connecting a cable 1 to a terminal 2 enclosed by a cover 3 comprises a screw 5 having a reduced diameter portion 7 and an internallythreaded collet 8 slidable on the portion 7. To make the connection, the cable 1 is looped round the screw 5, the collet 8 is screwed on to the screw portion 7 and inserted into a cover hole 4 and the screw is tightened in a threaded hole in the terminal 2, thus clamping the cable between the collet and the screw head. The axial length of the smaller diameter part of the collet 8 is slightly greater than the thickness of the cover 3, to allow for manufacturing tolerances and thus preventing pressure being applied to the cover. The invention is described as applied to the connecting of a multiple cable from a telephone instrument to the dial contact mechanism. The dial may be as described in Specification 518,721, [Group XXXIX], the several contact springs thereof having terminals 2 whose flat faces lie in a common plane immediately beneath a transparent dust cover 3, the cover having the necessary number of holes 4, and each conductor of the multiple cable being connected to its terminal 2 by'a screw 5 and collet 8.
