Abstract
693,312. Fuel-injectors. BOSCH GES., R. Jan. 18, 1951 [Jan. 20, 1950], No. 1356/51. Class 7 (iii). A fuel-pressure actuated injector valve opening in the direction of fuel flow is shaped to provide a first period of injection in which the fuel flow area is small, a second period in which it is reduced, and a third period in which it is increased to the maximum value. In Fig. 1 the valve seats on a conical seat 11 and is provided with a pintle 12 of smaller diameter than the fuel outlet 17 and a collar 13 of the same diameter as outlet. 17. During the first period the fuel is throttled by the pintle 12, after which the injection is interrupted by the collar 13 entering the outlet 17, the main injection occurring when the collar has emerged from the outlet 17. In Fig. 2 the primary injection takes place through an orifice 23 connected to a bore 22 in the valve head, which bore is blocked by a collar 24 during the second stage of injection, and the main injection occurs when the conical part of the valve emerges from the collar 24. In a further modification the valve head is provided with two annular chambers interconnected by throttling apertures the fuel for the priming injection flowing through the throttling aperture whereas that for the main injection is not throttled.
