Class 9(i) [Also in Group XXII] In a device for perforating &c. oil well casings &c. a shaped explosive charge 13 capped by a conical lining 5 is contained in a chamber 2 positioned on a body 1 by lugs 4 and a screw plug 6. The transverse explosive waves on ignition of the charge by a lanyard 7 are reduced by surrounding or lining the chamber 2 with rough porous material 8 such as sponge rubber, felt, glass wool, plastic material such as polystyrene, polyvinyl, or nylon, or metal trellis made of steel wool or shavings.
