Abstract

941,524. Armour-piercing projectiles. BOFORS A.B. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 19, 1959], No. 41159/60. Heading F3A. An armour-piercing projectile comprises a core 2 of hardened steel or tungsten carbide, a support 3 of soft metal such as brass, a cap 2 of tungsten carbide, a ballistic cap 4 and a tracer charge housed in a holder 5. If the core is of tungsten carbide it may be encased in a hardened steel casing and the cap 2 may be pre-weakened to facilitate its breaking up on impact. The support 3 acts as a lubricant.
