Abstract

A tool, die and structural steel alloy has the following composition: C 0.05-2.50 per cent, Si 0.50-2.50 per cent, Mn 0.75-3.25 per cent, Mo 0.25-2.62 per cent, Cu 0.35-2.00 per cent, Be 0.03-0.30 per cent, Fe and the usual impurities in common amounts the remainder. In alloys within the above range containing C 1.0-1.5 per cent, Si 1.5-2.5 per cent, Mn 1.5-3.25 per cent, Cu 1.25-2 per cent, a part of the carbon may be present as a graphite which is substantially uniformly distributed in the form of well-defined nodules.
