Abstract

690,200. Electromagnetic clutches. VERNHES, J. M. Dec. 28, 1950 [April 26, 1950], No. 31511/50. Class 35. [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIV] An electromagnetic clutch or brake comprises two concentric annular polar members 2, 3, Fig. 1, joined by a non-magnetic securing ring 4 and a coil 1, and two armature discs 5, 6 resiliently connected together and placed one at each end of the polar faces. Fig. 4 shows an alternative arrangement wherein a multi-disc device comprises an element 26 having parts 27, 27<SP>3</SP> interdigitated between and co-operate with the parts 27<SP>1</SP>, 27<SP>2</SP>, 28 and 28<SP>1</SP> of the other element. The discs 27, 27<SP>1</SP>, 27<SP>2</SP>, 27<SP>3</SP> are of magnetic material and they have non-magnetic annular inserts 29, 29<SP>1</SP>, 29<SP>2</SP>, 29<SP>3</SP> respectively.
