Abstract

689,244. Drying apparatus. INNES & CO., Ltd., J. K., and INNES, J. K. (Feb. 14, 1951 [Feb. 20, 1950], No. 4270/50. Class 34 (ii) [Also in Group XXX] Apparatus for drying granular material, nuts, &c. has one or more decks 1 along which the material is propelled by scoop blades 6 actuated by reciprocating rods 7 and has rake fingers 8 also reciprocated, the scoops and rake fingers being tilted at the end of each reciprocation by push roads 9 so that the scoops operate on the forward stroke and the rakes on the return stroke. Material is fed to the top desk from a hopper 5 by a reciprocating feed-slide 4 and discharged from the bottom deck to a conveyer A. A pressure chamber 14 above each deck has nozzles 15 through which drying medium, heated by passage over heating pipes 17 and delivered by fans 18 is directed on to the material. The drying medium, usually air, is drawn from above the lower decks by fans 16 and delivered past the heating pipes to the fans 18, saturated air from the upper deck being exhausted through a duct 19, and the pipes 17 are heated by flue gases controlled by a damper.
