Abstract
688,163. Metal flooring. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO., Ltd. Dec. 3, 1951 [Dec. 15, 1950], No. 30695/50. Class 20(iv) A metal curbing, or surround, for metal floor plates 8 has a rabbet along its inner edge equal in depth to the thickness of plates used, the margins of the latter bearing upon a flat horizontal surface at right angles to a complementary vertical face 7 when the plates 8 are lightly loaded and upon an inclined surface 6a when the plates are deflected downward by an increased load. An inverted T-shaped rib 5 protrudes from the underside of the curbing, sections of which are joined in alignment by channel members 14 which slidably engage the ribs 5. Sections of curbing meeting at an angle, e.g. mitred at 15, Fig. 1, are joined by a curved member 14a. the T-shaped ribs 5 near the mitre being cut away to leave clearance for the curved part 17 of the member 14a. The curbing is anchored in concrete by lugs 9 having head portions to slide along the ribs 5 and splayed ends 13, the lugs being accommodated in pockets formed in the concrete which are filled in during the grouting in of the curbing. The curbing is preferably made from extruded aluminium, or aluminium alloy, and is preferably used in conjunction with plates made of the same metal.
