Abstract

688,134. Automatic gramophones. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 1, 1951 [March 8, 1950], No. 5812/50. Class 40 (ii). In an automatic record changer having a cycling control disc, a clutch effects engagement of a drive to said control disc when an automatic cycle is to be effected, a cam on said control disc disengages said clutch when the cycle has been completed, and means are provided to maintain rotation of the control disc until said cam has passed its operative position. When the pick-up arm 24 reaches a certain position at the end of a record, a spring-loaded bellcrank 19 is moved clockwise under the influence of a pin 32 on a linkage 26, 27, 28, 29 whereby a pin 16 having a flange 17 supporting a pinion 11, slidably keyed to the turntable spindle 2, is released so that a dog clutch 14, 15 engages the pinion 11 with a free pinion 5 in engagement with the toothed edge of the control disc 6. An automatic cycle is thereby commenced and the dog clutch 14, 15 remains in engagement until a cam 22 on the control disc 6 raises the pin 16. The disc, however, continues to rotate, owing to a raised toothed part 23 of the disc 6 engaging the pinion 11, until the cam 22 is clear of the pin 16. Records are released one by one down the centre post 27 by means of a linkage 34, 35 connected to a pin 33 on the control disc 6. Specification 617,864 is referred to.
