Abstract

687,637. Valves. KLINGER AKT.-GES., R. June 8, 1951 [July 3, 1950], No. 13671/51. Class 135. A piston valve comprises a casing with inlet and outlet passages 1, 2 on a common axis, a longitudinally displaceable piston inclined to that axis and provided with a passage 5 to allow flow between the passages 1, 2, and a packing ring 6 which lies in a plane at right angles to the axis of the piston and through which the first-mentioned axis passes. The passage 5 is of relatively small diameter and the passages 1, 2 may converge towards the passage 5 to avoid any sudden change in cross-sectional area of the flow passage. A further packing ring 7 surrounds the piston and is spaced from the ring 6 by a cylinder 8 which is prevented from rotating by a screw 15 engaging in a slot in the cylinder. A gland 9 secured by bolts and nuts 11 serves to compress the packing rings. The valve is actuated by a screwed spindle 12, a pin 14 engaging in a groove in the piston preventing the latter from rotating.
