Abstract
An aluminium alloy comprises Cu 4.5-7.0 per cent; Ni 0.1-2.0 per cent; Si 0-0.45 per cent; Ti 0.1-0.3 per cent; Mn 0.01-0.6 per cent; Fe 0.01-1.0 per cent; Co 0.1-0.5 per cent and the remainder Al except for impurities. Zr up to 0.4 per cent, Zn up to 2 per cent, Bi up to 0.3 per cent and Sb up to 0.5 per cent may be present but the total of Ti and Zr should not exceed 0.5 per cent nor the total of Sb and Co 0.6 per cent. Mg is preferably absent but may be tolerated up to 0.2 per cent. The alloy may be solution treated for 20-0.5 hours at 530-565 DEG C quenched and aged at 200-300 DEG C for 16-0.5 hours. Specification 686,820 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the range of Cu may be 3.5-7.0 per cent; of Si 0-1.5 per cent; of Ti 0.01-0.3 per cent; of Fe 0.01-1.5 per cent.
