Abstract
686,425. Gas turbines; jet propulsion plant. WESTING HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Sept. 29, 1950 [Oct. 25, 1949], No. 23873/50. Class 110(iii) In a gas turbine power plant having an exhaust reheater 25, fuel is supplied to the reheater through the fuel manifolds 26, 27, 28 and is ignited by a streak of flame which passes from the main combustion chamber 14 through the turbine 16. The main combustion chamber 14 is of annular type having a plurality of fuel nozzles 33 supplied from the manifold 31. An auxiliary fuel nozzle 36 is disposed in the chamber and fuel supplied thereto causes the streak of flame which passes through the turbine to ignite the reheater fuel. The valve 39 controlling the fuel to the nozzle 36 may be manually operable or may be automatic in dependence on the reheater fuel supply. The fuel valve 39 will in either case be open only for a very short time preferably less than one second. The invention is shown applied in the case of a gas turbine jet propulsion plant.
