Abstract

685,765. Automatic guns. HISPANIOLA CORPORATION (LA HISPANIOLA CPA.). Sept. 23, 1949 [Sept. 30, 1948], No. 24459/49. Class 119 Relates to automatic guns of the type having a hollow breech bolt 4 sliding partly in a barrel-extension 50 and partly in the fixed gun casing 3, a locking-device 10 for the bolt and a striker 5 slidably mounted in the bolt, the bolt and striker recoiling together but being released separately by the sear for forward movement; the bolt first by trigger action and afterwards the striker as the bolt reaches its closed and locked position. According to the invention, the rate of automatic fire is diminished by providing a heavy striker having a long stroke, the weight of the striker being at least equal to or from 1“ up to twice the weight of the bolt. On firing with the parts in the position shown, the barrel extension 50 recoils. a short distance and releases a cranked bolt locking lever 10, 13 pivoted at 12 to the extension and at 11 to the gun casing. The bolt and striker, held together by a pivoted catch 42, then slide back under gas pressure against the action of springs 6, 7. At the end of recoil, the catch 42 is released by surface 101 on the gun casing and the breech bolt and striker are held respectively by projections 16, 17 on a sear 18 engaging bents 22 21. The sear is pivoted at 11 and engaged by the pivoted trigger 29. On pulling the trigger, the bolt 4 is first released and, when the breech closes, the barrel extension moves forward to lock the bolt and press on the sear projection 32 to release the striker by fully depressing the sear to discharge projection 17 from bent 21.
