Abstract

685,568. Pipe joints. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. May 15, 1951 [May 12, 1950], No. 11972/50. Class 99 (i). In a readily detachable ball-and-socket coupling lands 12a on the ball co-operate with slots 13a in the socket for interengagement in bayonet fashion, and a seal is maintained by a bead 15a on a light gauge tube extending within the ball and engaging within a tubular extension 14 of the socket at the central plane of the joint. The joint is particularly applicable to pipes carrying hot gases for short periods, the seal being made by rapid expansion of the light gauge tube.
