Abstract

685,549. Road-sweeping machines. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS, Ltd. Jan. 19, 1951 [Jan. 19, 1950], No. 1410/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 107 Relates to a road-sweeping and refusecollecting vehicle of the kind comprising a body mounted on road wheels, at least some of which are driven from a power unit on the vehicle, a road-sweeping brush extending horizontally transversely of the vehicle and driven from the power unit to rotate and drive refuse forwardly of the vehicle to conveyer means disposed forwardly of the brush, the conveyer means conveying the refuse to a compartment in the vehicle. A vehicle of the above kind comprises a pair of front wheels mounted for steering movement, and a pair of rear wheels; the two pairs of wheels being spaced apart longitudinally by the minimum distance to accommodate therebetween the road-sweeping brush and that part of the conveyer means which is disposed forwardly of the brush so as to provide a four-wheeled vehicle of high manoeuverability. The front wheels preferably are power driven, the rear wheels being on a dead axle. Each rear wheel may comprise two wheels in known manner.
