The aluminium sheath of an electric cable is re-inforced by one or more helically applied aluminium tapes. The tapes, which are preferably of annealed aluminium, are applied with closely spaced turns, and may be applied in two layers, so that the turns of the outer layer cover the helical space between the turns of the inner layer.
