Abstract
684,736. Thermal switches. PIERCE FOUNDATION, J. B. March 5, 1951 [May 17, 1950], No. 5277/51. Class 38 (v). An overload circuit-breaker comprises a bimetallic cupped disc 17 which carries the current or has a separate heating coil and when heated snaps into its other position in which it is concave upwards and in which contacts 20, 21 separate from fixed contacts 39, 40; to reset, the disc 17 is moved bodily by pressing on a button 42 till the outer portions of the disc engage shoulders in the casing, further movement then returning the disc 17 to its convex state, after which release of the button allows the button 42 and the disc 17 to move bodily back to .their original contact-making position under the influence of a spring 18. The axial position of the bushing 32 may be adjusted. In the form shown pins 36, 37 are adapted to plug into a piece of apparatus, and two leads, not shown, are connected to terminals on the plug.
