684,478. Printing. BROWN, BIBBY & GREGORY, Ltd., and SNODIN, W. D. May 8, 1950 [May 6, 1949], No. 12107/49. Class 100 (ii). [Also in Group XXIX] Set-off preventing.-In the electrostatic application of anti-offset material 17 to a printed web or sheet 40, one or more vibratory members, such as wires 19, 20, 21 or cords, are.provided within or adjacent the path of deposition of the material to reduce coagulation thereof. In the device shown, which resembles, that of Fig. 4 of Specification 596,540, the wires 19, 20, 21 are adjustably stretched between nuts and bolts in the end plates of the hopper 10; the H.F. or L.F. alternating or rectified potential applied to the electrode 18 causes the wires to vibrate in a circular motion whereby the material 17 falling from the lower part of the roller 11 as it is driven anti-clockwise is deposited evenly on the transversely moving web or sheet 40. The supply may be obtained through a transformer, and if it is rectified the electrode 18 may be periodically discharged to earth by a spark gap across a capacitor and in series with a resistor.
