Abstract

681,914. Augers. HUTTER, H. E. March 12, 1951 [Dec. 14, 1949], No. 32029/49. Class 85 A parallel-motion linkage for mounting earth boring tools on vehicles comprises a pair of spaced linkages, each linkage being formed by links 7, 10 of equal length which cross each other and are pivoted to the vehicle at points 5, 12 respectively, which points are vertically above one another, the links being pivotally connected at their other ends 'to the ends of an intermediate link 9 which carries the boring tool 17 pivotally suspended at its mid-point. The boring tool, which is driven from a power " take-off " from the tractor via a cardan shaft 18 and a gear box 16, is raised or lowered by struts 26 connecting the lower links 7 to pneumatically controlled operating arms 21. If the tractor is on a slope in the fore and aft direction, a guide may be provided for an extension on the gearbox to assure that no strain is put on the auger, and if on a transverse slope, the struts 13 may be carried by a frame 25, Fig. 4, which is rotatable about an axis 26 parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tractor to ensure that the auger is vertical.
