680,357. Valves; valve-gear. CAMFIELD MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 28, 1949. No. 33134/49. Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii), and 7 (vi). In a two-stroke crankcase compression engine, the compressed mixture is transferred from the crankcase to the engine cylinder through a passage 34 and ports 35 in the crank-shaft 13 and passages 29, 28 surrounding the stem 26 of the inlet valve 31 actuated by a cam 33 on the crank-shaft, the mixture, containing atomised lubricant picked up in the crankcase, acting to cool and lubricate the valve and cam mechanism. The mixture from a carburettor 41 enters the crankcase through a rotary valve 15 which is seated in an end-cap 14 of the crankcase and comprises a tubular portion, with a port 45 controlling the mixture intake port 46 and a port 52 leading to the'crankcase, attached to a driving disc 48 connected for rotation by a pin 49 to the crank-pin 21. A spring 51 holds the plate against the wall of the cap 14, and the poppet valve stem 26 and tappet 32 slide in bores formed in the cylinder block.
