Abstract
679,590. Mixing valves. ROWELL, C. V. Oct. 27, 1950 [Oct. 28, 1949], No. 26304/50. Class 135. A mixing valve unit comprises a hollow outer sleeve 22, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted in a valve body 11, a hollow handle 23 of good heat conductivity secured to the sleeve, a hollow inner sleeve 42 within the outer sleeve and extending into the handle and valve means actuated by the handle. By rotating the handle a cam 24 formed on the outer sleeve actuates either or both valves 35, Fig. 2, to allow liquid to pass from the inlets 40, 41 to a mixing chamber 15, through the inner sleeve and handle and between the inner and outer sleeves to outer sleeve ports 43. The mixture then passes through body passage 45 to a bath or, on moving the sleeves axially outwards by the handle, through body passage 46 to a shower. The cam is tapered axially so that the valves close to give a reduced volume in the shower position. In a modification the inner end of the outer sleeve is formed as a cylindrical plug cock controlling the passage from the inlets to a single outlet, the bath and shower pipes leading from this outlet being controlled by taps.
