Abstract

679,075. Casting-machines. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES CONDUITES D'EAU SOC. ANON. Aug. 14, 1950 [Aug. 12, 1949], No. 20151/50. Class 83 (i). A centrifugal machine for casting bodies-of-revolution has a single moving element which controls the movement of all the parts of the machine, viz. the rotation and longitudinal movement of the mould, the tilting of the ladle and the interchange of pouring channels after each pouring operation. The element may comprise a shaft 7, Fig. 4, driven at a constant speed by a motor 71 and carrying cams 1 ... 6 to control the moving parts through electric or electronic devices. The ladle 1<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, may be tilted and returned at desired variable speed, including a backward jerk when enough molten material has been poured, by a ram 21 actuated by oil from a pump driven by an electric motor regulated by a potentiometer 1<SP>11</SP> adjusted by rack and pinion from the cam 1. The material is poured through one or other of two funnels 10, 11 and two troughs 8, 9, these being interchanged by means 32, 12, 13, 14 operated by the cams 3, 4. The trough not in use may be cooled or coated automatically by devices 20 carried by the mould carriage 16<SP>11</SP>. This is moved axially by a variable-speed electric motor 18 supplied from a dynamo 17 with current which is controlled by the cam 6. The rotation of the mould is effected by a motor 16 started and stopped by the cam 2. The cam 5 may be used to control the distribution of ferrosilicon or other powder or liquid used for prelining the mould. Each cam may comprise several segments shaped to give the required periphery; 19 is an automatic extractor.
