678,699. Sewing - machines. CARLSSON, N. R. L., and CARLSSON, S. E., (trading as SYMASKINSVERKSTADEN SPECIAL RUNE OCH S. E. CARLSSON). April 24, 1951, No. 9502/51. Class 112. In an edge-basting machine in which the upper and lower rubbing members 27, 14 are reciprocated in opposite directions by connections from a lever 19, the upper member is mounted on a carrier 26 which can be lifted and turned out of the operative position. The machine shown is similar to that described in Specification 679,088 except that the upper rubbing member 27 (which is duplicated as well as the lower member 14) is carried by a rod 26 slidable vertically in a guide 24 which is pivoted near the top at 25 and is connected to the lever 19 by a bar 22 whereby the member 27 is reciprocated. The bar 26 is pressed down by a spring within the guide 24, and may be lifted by a finger-piece 32, which also adjusts its lower position until a pin 31 on the rod, moving in a vertical slit in the guide, can enter a lateral part 30 of the slot to hold the bar raised; in this position the bar is of course rotated from its original position and the rubber member is correspondingly swung clear of the work as well as lifted. A pin 35 on a lever connected to the presser-bar lifts the carrier 26 while the work is fed.
