An edge-binding unit comprises a fixing plate mounted on a sewing machine throat plate, a slide plate mounted on the fixing plate, and an adjuster having a cam groove engaging a pin on the slide plate and being adjustable while the machine is in operation to move the slideplate and a folding guide adjustably mounted thereon, to adjust the position of the stitch line. A fixing plate 1, mounted on a throat plate 2, carries screws 3, the heads of which engage slots 4 in a plate 5 slidable on plate 1. A knob 13, pivoted on a pin 14 which is carried by plate 1 and passes through one of the slots 4, has a lower flange which is biased by a spring washer 15 against plate 5 and which is formed with a cane slot 12 engaging a pin 11 on plate 5. A folding guide 8 is adjustably secured to plate 5 by screws which pass through slots 7 in a flange 6 on plate 5 and enter threaded holes in guide 8. Screws 3 and the pins 11 and 14 are aligned in a direction perpendicular to the direction of work feed, whereby rotation of knob 13 serves to adjust the distance of the stitch line from the bound edge of the work.
