Abstract

678,665. Sorting photo-electrically. GROSZ, E. June 14, 1951 [April 4, 1951], No. 7788/61. Class 40 (iii). Articles, e.g. seeds 6 passing through an aperture 5 in a plate 4 are sorted by three photo-cells 1 equally spaced around the aperture, three backgrounds 12 each opposite the end of the cell by which it is received, and three light sources 18 which illuminate the seed. The light is reflected across the aperture by means of three pairs of mirrors 17, 17a so that the seeds are illuminated substantially on all sides. Each photo-cell is mounted in a housing 9 provided with a diaphragm in the focal plane of a lens 11.
