Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo-pyrazolone dyestuffs, free from carboxylic acid and sulphonic acid groups and of the formula <FORM:0678492/IV (c)/1> where R is a benzene residue containing a sulphonamide substituent -SO2-NR1R2 with or without other substituents, R1 and R2 being hydrogen, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl. These are made by coupling 4-nitro-6-chloro-2-aminophenol with the appropriate pyrazolones. Preferred compounds have R1 a radical of 1-4 carbon atoms and R2 hydrogen. The products can be used for dyeing and printing, and may be metallized in substance, in the dyebath or on the fibre. Examples show the use of the following substituted 1 - phenyl - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolones as coupling components: 31-sulphonamide, 31-sulphomethylamide, 31-sulpho-b -oxyethylamide, 41-sulphonamide, 21-methyl-51-sulphonamide and 21-chloro-51-sulphonamide. Other components are listed. Further examples describe the dyeing of wool with the compounds by the after-chroming and metachrome processes. Specification 254,708, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
