Abstract

678,152. Fastener driving machines. BOCJL CORPORATION. Feb. 24,1948 [Dec. 12, 1945], No. 5496/48. Class 89 (iii). A machine for forming and driving headed fasteners comprises a spring-raised plunger provided with means for bending down leg parts, cutting off, and driving successive T-shaped fasteners during each downward stroke of the plunger. A spring-raised plunger 2 when depressed moves a slidable plate 40 to the right against springs 45, as shown in Fig. 6, so that a pair or spring pawls 51 carried by the plate 40 engage in notches a in a prepared metal strip A to positively advance the strip when the plunger 2 is raised. Spring pawls 38 fixed to a U-shaped plate 35 and to the plate 12 prevent the strip A from moving backwards. The strip A, which is fed from a drum A', having a removable cover, into a groove 34 in a plate 12 is formed with slits a', a<SP>2</SP> so that each leg-forming part a<SP>3</SP> is in turn bent down by an offset tongue 23 of the plunger 2 while a previously bent fastener blank is cut off by an edge 24a of a driving tongue 24 co-operating with a cutting edge 60 on the plate 12. A full stroke mechanism comprising a spring centred pawl 29, grooves 26, 27 and serrations 28 is provided. An opening 53 in the housing permits removal of a defective strip A.
