Abstract

676,286. Automatic gramophones. PHILCO CORPORATION. Feb. 9, 1951. [March 11, 1950] No. 3218/51. Class 40 (ii). In an automatic gramophone in which records are supported on a non-rotating stepped centre post 26 and on a stepped support 17 beside the turntable 11, records are unseated one by one from the step on the centre post by the movement of the centre post towards the support 17. The turntable is mounted on a sleeve 18 which rotates on a thrust bearing 23 about a stationary sleeve 20. The centre post has a small ridge 28 by which it rests on the upper end 29 of the sleeve 20. During an automatic cycle the lower end 37 of the centre post is moved right and then left, as viewed in the figures, by an aperture 38 in the end of a lever 39 pivoted at a fixed point 40 and movable under the influence of a cycling cam 45, through the medium of a cam follower 44 on an arm 41 coupled to lever 39 by a spring 43 which prevents excessive movement or pressure being applied to the centre post 26. The support 17 is rotatable to three separate positions to enable three stepped shelves at different distances from the centre post to be brought into operation for the accommodation of different size records.
