676,222. Claw clutches. SOC. D'ETUDES DE MACHINES THERMIQUES. May 10, 1949 [May 27, 1948], No. 12479/49. Class 80 (ii). A claw clutch, which can be dismantled without disturbing the coupled shafts 1, 2, comprises toothed clutch-members 6, 11, the former, 6, secured by bolts 4 to the shaft 1, the latter, 11, bolted at 21 to a sleeve 30 splined in a casing centre-member 26, attached through an endplate 24 to the shaft 2, the shaft 1 carrying in a space 33 radially within the clutch teeth and between the clutch-members 6, 11, an annular cylinder 8 co-operating with a piston 9 secured to the movable clutch member 11, to which piston oil-pressure from ducts 16, 15 can be applied on either face 18, 17 to engage and disengage the clutch. The piston slides in an annular space between concentric cylinder-walls 8, 13. Dismantling is effected by removing screws 22 permitting leftward axial retraction of casing-part 19, exposing screws 21, removal of which, together with screws 23, permits radial removal of the casing centre-member 26. This leaves a gap between the shaft-ends permitting the clutch-member 11 to be removed from the piston 9, and the inner part 8 of the cylinder to be withdrawn axially, after removing a pin 27.
