Abstract

674,124. Cylinder moulds of paper-making machines. TROTMAN, W. E. K. Aug. 4, 1950 [Aug. 8, 1949; July 28, 1950], Nos. 20574/49 and 18870/50. Class 96. A cylinder mould of a paper-making machine has only one wire-cloth cover which is supported by a framework of bars 13 supported on spider-rings 12 on a shaft 11, Fig. 2, and clamped between end-rings 14. The bars 13 are in short, ridged, arcuate segments 18, Fig. 4, integral with stems 15 which have interrupted ribs 24, Fig. 2, to engage tapered peripheries 26 of the rims of the rings 12. Axial movement of the rings 12 is effected by turning a shaft 50 &c. geared to a right- and left-hand threaded screw-sleeve 45, and forces the bars 13 outwardly to tighten the covering 37 which may be of 2500 mesh per square inch. The bars 13 are resiliently mounted at 36 and are held against moving outwardly away from the rings 12 by an additional ring 32 at each end co-acting with ribs 24a. A modified expansion mechanism acting through a hollow central shaft is described. Also disclosed are a method of securing the ends of the wire-cloth to the framework and a fixed-diameter framework of a stationary mould.
