Abstract
673,514. Manually-actuated valves. SPECIALTIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. May 31, 1950 [Oct. 27, 1949], No. 13572/50. Class 135. A valve assembly, particularly for fire detecting and extinguishing systems, comprises a body having a chamber with a gas inlet port 26 for extinguishing medium, normally closed by the spring-loaded valve 32, an air inlet port 12 leading to, e.g. a protected space, a normally open air outlet port 16 controlled by a spring-loaded ball 22, and a stem 42 movable manually by a cam 62 to first close the ball 22 by a resilient means, e.g. a conical spring 50, which then snaps past the ball and enables the stem to move its end 46 to open the valve 32 through a spring 48. The valve body has a flange 70 enabling a plurality of bodies to be secured together to form a manifold 90 for the extinguishing medium leading to whichever assembly is actuated.
