A resistance comprises a thin foil or sheet 3 of metal, having a low temperature coefficient of resistance, fixed to an insulating base 2 and slotted or grooved. Preferably the metal sheet' 1 is fixed to the insulating base 2 which is of glass or plastic material by powdered glass heated to melting-point or a resin cement. A sliding contact 5 provides for varying the resistance.
