Abstract

671,980. Seats; furniture frames. EVERTAUT, Ltd. Nov. 6, 1950. [Feb. 13, 1950] No. 3574/50. Class 52 (ii). A chair with an open back frame has fitted thereto a back rest consisting of a resilient flexible plate or panel of sheet metal attached at its upper end to the top of the back frame and at its lower end to the rear portion of the seat. As shown the flexible panel 9 is secured at 12 to the rear of the seat 5 and at 10 to the top of the back frame 1. The flexible panel 9 may be bent to provide a portion 9a the panel thus conforming to the shape of the back frame 1 while an upholstered back pad 11 may be fixed as shown. In modifications the flexible panel may comprise a bowed part at its lower end or it may be corrugated above and below the pad 11. The chair shown is intended for stacking purposes and comprises back and seat frames 1, 2 fixedly secured together in crossed relation and provided with feet 6, 3. The seat is recessed at the sides of its rear part and the back panel 9 leaves openings between it and the back frame 1 to permit a similar chair to be lowered into stacked relationship with it.
