671,208. Making tubes. SCHWEISSWERK CASTROP GES. Aug. 9, 1950 [Aug. 9, 1949], No. 19835/50. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). Coiling; angular-bending; bending-formers.- Apparatus for making helically wound tube comprises a smooth mandrel 3, which may be rotated by a lathe chuck 1, of length equal to about twice the width of the strip 4. The strip is fed by rolls 5, guided by edge rolls 8, 9 and helically wound on the mandrel by rubber covered rolls 10 rotated by a friction roll 10<1> from the mandrel. The seam may be welded by apparatus 12 of known construction. The rolls 5 may joggle or otherwise shape the edge of the strip.
