670,392. Belt pulleys; securing to shafts. MARTINS; J. C. Dec. 23, 1949, No. 32933/49. Classes 80 (i) and 80 (ii). A V-pulley composed of a series of discs 2 axially secured by bolts 8 is clamped to a shaft 1 by the contraction of the central aperture of the discs as the bolts are tightened. The rear walls 3 of the discs may be flat, as shown in Fig. 1, or dished, as in Fig. 3 (not shown). The conical walls 4 may be provided with interlocking lips, Fig. 5 (not shown), and the discs secured to a sleeve keyed to the shaft 1. In the form shown in Fig. 6 the conical walls 22 continue into abutment flanged parts 23 which may be riveted or welded together, and outer conical flanges 24 form the V-grooves of the pulley. In a modification of this form, the bolts 8 are dispensed with, the rear wall is corrugated, and the discs are threaded on to a reduced portion of the shaft 1 and clamped between a flat disc and a nut screwed on to a threaded portion of the shaft. Pulleys of large diameter may be formed of pairs of discs secured to a shaft by the deformation of smaller dished discs interposed therebetween, axial clamping bolts being passed through the assembly. A pair of large discs may be replaced by a single disc having secured thereto an annular conical flange. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the discs may be provided with radial slits or corrugations extending outwardly from the central aperture. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
