Abstract
669,280. Smallarms. PATCHETT, G. W., and STERLING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 13, 1950. No. 27683/50. Class 119. In order to enable a firearm to receive either a straight or a curved magazine 5 in such manner that the leading round is disposed at the correct angle to the breech action, the magazine socket 6 is angularly adjustable with respect to the firearm, or alternatively means are provided for correctly positioning the magazine in a fixed socket. In the construction shown the fixed socket has an inclined front wall 8 and has two apertures 12, 12a in its upper wall for receiving a pin which projects from an arm 11 pivoted on the socket. The pin when in the aperture 12 as shown serves to hold a curved magazine against the wall 8, and when in aperture 12a it holds a straight magazine against the wall 7. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the walls 7 and 8, or parts thereof, are hinged and can be fixed in the adjusted position, and in another modification. Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) the upper and lower walls of the socket have opposed pairs of slots for the reception of a removable abutment adapted to hold a magazine against the appropriate end wall. In another construction arms 11 are pivoted on the upper and lower walls and are joined by a bar which extends across an arcuate mouth of the socket. When the socket itself is pivoted to the firearm it is held in the adjusted position by the engagement of spring detents or plungers in apertures.
