669,170. Self-baking electrodes. ELEKTROKEMISK AKTIESELSKAPET. Jan. 2, 1950 [Jan. 3, 1949], No. 46/50. Class 39(iii) A self-baking electrode for a furnace has internal reinforcing members comprising metal strips or plates 11, 12 or the like extending the whole length of the electrode and having projecting lugs 13 connecting them mechanically and electrically, e.g. by welding to the metal mantle 10 containing the electrode paste. The lugs 13 extend in staggered relationship from opposite edges of each strip and are bent to extend radially to the mantle: The lugs are rectangular in profile or may widen towards the cylindrical mantle. The strips 11, 12 may be parallel and arranged symmetrically about the axis at a distance from it less than half the radius of the electrode. The strips may be corrugated or perforated or have projections to obtain good contact -with the electrode mass, or tubes or netting may be used.
