669,090. Change-speed control. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), Ltd., D., and EASTWOOD, T. Oct. 10, 1949 [Sept. 9, 1948], No. 23686/48. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXIX] A hydraulic remote control mechanism comprises a gear change lever a, movement of which forwards or backwards, Fig. 1, actuates two axially aligned control pistons, connected by liquid columns to a corresponding pair of actuator pistons, to cause rotation of a lever e, Fig. 4, about the axis of a shaft f on which it is fixed, which produces a gear change, whilst sideways movement of the lever a moves a second pair of control pistons g, g<SP>1</SP> connected by liquid columns to the ends of the shaft f formed as pistons in cylinders h, h', to cause bodily movement sideways of the shaft f and lever e. When the lever a is in neutral position, a spring-loaded plunger j engages a detent in the shaft f, and the liquid columns are in communication with the oil reservoir through passages i in the pistons which may contain non-return valves. The pistons may be spring-loaded towards neutral position. Specifications 436,071, 484,954, 515,991 and 548,295, [all in Group XXIX], are referred to.
