Abstract

Theophylline is stabilized by admixture with o-, m- or p-aminobenzoic acid in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide, such as sodium and potassium hydroxides. Preferably, equimolar proportions of the aminobenzoic acid and theophylline are mixed with water and one to two molecules of alkali metal hydroxide added until complete solution occurs at room temperature. A product containing 45 to 55 per cent free theophylline is prepared and has a solubility at 28 DEG C. of 15 to 50 grms. per 100 mils of solution and a pH of 9.2 to 9.5. Specification 624,696 is referred to.
