667,909. Variable-speed gearing. HURET, A. M., HURET, R. H., and HURET, J. A. April 28, 1950 [Sept. 20, 1949], No. 10551/50. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXXI] A control means for chainshifting devices for cycles or like vehicles comprises two handles 10, 12 pivotally mounted on the same . supporting shaft 6 and separately controlling the two chain-shifting devices 1, 4. The shaft 6 is rigid with a plate 7 mounted by a clip 8 on a tube 9 of the cycle frame. A friction washer 11 is inserted between the handles 10, 12 the friction being regulated by a screw 15 screwed into the shaft 6. To prevent its rotation, the shaft 11 has a notch receiving a lug 17 which unites the plate 7 and a further washer 13. A cable 3 controlling the chain-shifting means 1 is fixed to a lug 18 on the lower end of the plate 7. A cable 5 for the chain-shifting means 4 is fixed to an extension 21 of the handle 12.
