667,245. Seats. JELLIFFE, R. E. V., and COOPER, P. F. Dec. 1, 1950. [Dec. 21, 1949] No. 32776/49. Class 52 (ii). To convert lorries or the like into passenger vehicles a seat assembly is proivded comprising, in combination, bearers extending fore- and-aft and a number of ranks of seats, each wide enough to seat more than one person and each supported on and extending across the bearers, the whole being capable of being lifted into the lorrv &c. by a pair of men. As shown, a seat for four persons is secured by bolts, welding or otherwise, by means of feet 21, 22 to three bearers 11, 12, 13 which are interconnected by transverse members 16, 17. The bearers, which rest upon the floor of the lorry, are preferably narrow, and in this instance comprise an angle iron section with the edges of the flanges contacting the floor, so that the weight of the assembly acting through restricted contact with the floor results in a localised and fairly intense pressure and prevents movement of the seat assembly under accidental forces such as braking, acceleration or centrifugal force. The contacting bearers may be of channel form and its edges may be serrated. Seats for two persons are mounted on two bearers only and either two or three rows of seats may be mounted on each set of bearers. The seats may have tubular frames with a seat cushion 27 and a back panel 28 cut at the corners to provide hand grips 31, 32.
