666,638. Winding yarn &c. MUSCHAMP, H. L. June 17, 1949 [June 17, 1948], No. 16278/48. Class 120(ii) An automatic winding machine including a winding spindle forming a centre for one end of a core j on which winding is to be effected, is characterized in that filament 'clamping means b', e‹, separate from the end of the core, are provided, such means being normally held resiliently apart, as by a spring h, but that upon insertion of the core j and the closure thereupon of the tailstock o, the clamping means b<SP>1</SP>, e‹ are pressed together to grip the filament led therebetween by a guide arm at the conclusion of a wind and prior to the commencement of a new winding operation. The clamping means b', e‹ are carried by an adaptor with a screw-threaded extension c taking into the driving spindle, a pin g limiting the axial movement of a plunger e and making it rotate with the spindle. A friction ring k may be fitted in a groove of the plunger. In a modification, the plunger e carries a spring-urged core-driving blade, slidable in a slot therein, and is fitted with a centre plug to position the core. Specification 666,639 is referred to.
