Abstract

666,453. Motor power plant. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 29, 1950. [Oct. 21, 1949] No. 27133/49. Class 110(iii) [Also in Group XXXIII] In a power plant comprising a steam generator 8 supplying steam to one or more steam turbines 12, an internal combustion engine such as a Diesel engine 1 and, if desired, a gas turbine installation, in which combustion atmosphere for the generator is constituted by air supplied by a fan 11 and by the exhaust gases from the Diesel and gas turbine units, the exhaust gases from the Diesel engine induce a flow of additional combustion atmosphere into the generator should the supply thereto from the fan or gas turbine be interrupted. An injector 13 is arranged in the exhaust duct 14 for this purpose. Valves A, B, C, D are provided whereby air supply to the injector may be direct from atmosphere, or may pass through the heater 7 alone or through the heater and the turbine installation. The exhaust gases from the gas turbine may also be arranged to induce an additional supply of air into the generator. The gas turbine installation comprises a compressor 4, an air heater 7, a combustion chamber 9 and turbines 3, 5 arranged in series. The steam turbine 12, gas turbine 5 and Diesel engine drive an output shaft through appropriate gearing. The Diesel engine is coupled to the shaft through an hydraulic or electric coupling 2.
