Class 103(ii) A removable luggage carrier for motor-cars of the type including points of support which rest on the roof of the car and tension bars with adjustable tensioning means adapted to engage with lateral projections at the sides of the mctor-car body such as door fillisters, is characterized by the fact that the two opposite side members of the luggage carrier each present a straight substantially horizontal intermediate portion terminating in two downwardly sloping portions each carrying a resilient or shock-absorbing supporting base surface, and are each combined with two vertical posts or uprights, each carrying an additional supporting base surface, said uprights being rigidly interconnected by an auxiliary side member on which the corresponding tension bar is secured. The carrier comprises side rails 1 each of which terminate in rubber supporting pads 2. Two posts 4, slidably mounted on each tube 1 by means of collars 3, are rigidly interconnected by a rail 6 and formed with additional rubber supporting pads 5. Cross-rails 8, slidably mounted on the rails 1 by means of collars 9, support angle-section rails 11 which support slats 12 overlaid at their ends by a strip 13, the whole being clamped together by upwardly inserted bolts (not shown), which pass through spacer tubes 10 and are threaded into the rails 8. A transverse tubular rail 14 is rigidly secured at its ends to the rail 3 and is adapted to receive rods 15, to the lower extremity of each of which is pivotally secured a tube 16. A clamping plate 7 is welded to a bar 21 threaded internally to receive a bolt 23, the bar and the bolt being respectively inserted upwardly and downwardly within the tube 21. Each rod 15 is locked within the tube 14 by a bolt 19 and the pivoted connection between the tube 21 and the extremity of the rod 15 is offset towards one end of the tube 21 so that when the tube is rotated 180 degrees, the distance between the carrier and the plate 14 is varied for the purpose of adjustment.
